There are many different types of resin available on the market, but for the purpose of this tutorial, we will be using two-part epoxy resin. This is a two-part resin that comes in a kit with two separate containers, A and B. When mixed together in equal parts, the resin cures and hardens to form a solid plastic.
Epoxy resin is a great material for making candle holders as it is strong and durable, yet also lightweight and easy to work with. It can be poured into any shape or mould, and can be sanded and polished to a high finish.
To begin, measure out the required amount of resin and mix together equal parts of A and B. Stir well until the resin is completely mixed and there are no lumps.
Next, pour the resin into the desired mould or container. Use a stick or other object to help spread the resin evenly throughout the mould.
If you are using a mould, make sure to tap it on a hard surface to help remove any air bubbles.
Leave the resin to cure for 24-48 hours, then remove from the mould and sand if necessary.
Your candle holder is now ready to be polished and finished to your desired effect.
Making A Giant Candle
My chosen project for this week was to make a giant candle. I was inspired by a few different things I had seen online and decided that I wanted to try it out myself. I started by looking up a few tutorials on how to make a giant candle. I found one on the blog “A Beautiful Mess” that I decided to follow.
The first step was to gather my materials. For this project, you will need a pot, wax, a wick, a stove, and a container to put the candle in. I used an old spaghetti sauce jar that I had lying around.
The next step was to start melting the wax. I put about 2 cups of wax into my pot and set it on the stove. I turned the heat up to medium-high and let the wax melt.
Once the wax was melted, I cut my wick to the desired length. I made sure to leave about 2 inches of wick on each end.
I then carefully poured the wax into the container. I made sure to keep the wick in the center of the wax.
Once the wax had cooled, I trimmed the wick to about 1/4 inch in length.
I then lit the candle and let it burn for about 30 minutes.
I was really happy with how my giant candle turned out. It was really easy to make and it looks great!
