Create a video series

The video series would start with a basic introduction on candle making, including the history of the craft and the different materials used – beeswax, paraffin and soy wax, wicks, coloring blocks, scent oils, double boilers etc.

In subsequent videos viewers could learn how to choose the right kind of wax based on their intended project and the different levels of fineness each wax type provides. The videos would also walk viewers through how to properly melt down wax in a double boiler so it can be blended with dyes and scents.

Once melted down and color-scented to perfection, there would be further instruction on pouring techniques for both pillars and votives as well as container candles. To top it all off, additional tutorials could cover specialized recipes like combining waxes or rolling tapers by hand.

Include a Troubleshooting section

Troubleshooting:

Problem: Wax not melting properly.

Solution: Check that the heat source is set to the correct temperature by using a candy thermometer. Make sure the wax is completely submerged in chain or hot water and be patient as it may take some time for the wax to fully melt.

Problem: Candle isn’t holding it’s shape.
Solution: Re-pour the candle, being sure to fill in gaps with additional melted wax before it cools. For more dramatic shapes consider purchasing molds specifically designed for shaped candles.

Problem: Soot around wick after burning.
Solution: Make sure you are using a wick that is appropriate for your candle size and type of wax used by doing research prior to beginning your candle-making project. Trim the wick too a minimum length of ¼ inch or less prior to each burn. If your fireplace has a hood, use it; this will suck up most of soot and smoke produced by the burning candle.
