Some Easy Candles DIY Information
Easy candles can be a great way to provide light to your home, for parties or just for keeping yourself occupied in the evenings. They are also great for enjoying out on a night out, or when you have friends over. However, creating your own candles at home is not quite as easy as you may think. In fact, it is likely that you will need a bit of DIY knowledge in order to successfully build and burn these candles.
The first thing you need to do is gather together all the materials you will need for your easy candles. You will need beeswax (or paraffin wax if you want to try making candles with a candle wax alternative), a wick, some cotton balls, food coloring, and some clear or colored glass beads or marbles. Although it is not essential, you will probably also need a double boiler or a heatproof container in order to heat up the wax adequately. You should also remember that beeswax candles have a tendency to bubble, so it is very important not to try to melt them – this can cause the candle to crack.
Once you have all the materials you need, the first thing you need to do is to melt down your beeswax or paraffin wax, whichever you will be using. Try to keep the wick thin, as you do not want your candle to end up too brittle once it has been poured into the container. You may need to experiment with the melting point of the wax, but once you find the consistency that works for you, it will be much easier to pour it into its container.
Next, you will want to add the food coloring to the wax, and mix it thoroughly with the wax. You should see a nice even color spread throughout the entire surface of the beeswax, and it will turn out darker if you wait for it to dry before you add the clear, colorless beads. It is best to test the color to see if it goes together with the rest of the candle. Some of the colored beeswax will have the color in a separate container to help you get an accurate color match.
The next step is to take a colorless crystal that is the same color as the wax and place it inside the container of the beeswax. Then you will want to add your food coloring and mix it together until you have a nice even color. If there are any stray colors or spots, you can always melt them away with the microwave. The beeswax should come out clean after this process has been done.
Now you are ready to make your beautiful easy candles! You can start by picking up the container that the beeswax had melted in and making sure that it is straight and that it is level. Now you can fill the bottom of the container with the colorless bead that you were using. Then put a colorless gel in the top of the container. The gel will help keep the colorless glass from breaking as you pour it over the beeswax.
The wick should be already attached to the candle. If not then skip this step and just continue to the next until the wick is securely in place. Make sure that you use a ribbon or string to hang the candle with. Once you are finished, you can then attach the colorless glass to the base of the candle and use a color safe stick or colorless tape to hold the wick in place.
