The water vapor and carbon dioxide created by the flame are drawn up into the air above the candle. If the candle is lit in a drafty room, this hot air will be drawn out of the candle, causing the flame to flicker. The carbon dioxide and water vapor created by the flame will then condense in the air outside of the candle, causing the smoke that is seen trailing from the candle.
So, the next time you see this smoke, don’t be alarmed! It is just a result of the combustion of the wick and is nothing to worry about.
