Candle Making Proper Wick
Size
How do you determine the right wick size for your candle? This is a question that is often asked by candle makers. The answer, however, is not always straightforward.
The size of the wick is important because it affects the rate at which the wax is consumed and the flame size. If the wick is too small, the wax will not be consumed quickly enough and the candle will not burn properly. If the wick is too large, the candle will burn too quickly and the flame will be too large.
In general, the wick size should be about 1/4 the diameter of the candle. However, you may need to experiment a bit to find the right size for your candles. You can do this by trial and error, or by using a wick sizing chart.
If you are using a pre-made wick, the size is usually indicated on the package. If you are making your own wicks, you can use the following guidelines to determine the size.
The thickness of the wick should be about 1/8 inch.
