Can you make a candle in your own kitchen? You bet you can! That’s right, making a candle is not as difficult as you might think. The key to making a candle successfully is simply making the wick, pouring the wax and heating it up, then cooling it down and putting the wick back into the jar.
Now, how can you make candles without paraffin? In theory, yes, but it’s difficult to do. Can you even melt paraffin effectively in a pan? Certainly not. So then, how can you make candles without it? Maybe surprisingly, yes you can!
Candle wax, generally called beeswax or gel, is composed of the fatty acids methyl, propyl and butyric acid. Beeswax is commonly available at craft stores and is commonly used as a carrier oil for perfumes, massage oils, cosmetic products and cooking oils. Although beeswax is mostly obtained from honeybees, it is also available from carobs. Carobs are tubers harvested from carob trees.
Beeswax is mixed with water and the milled hexane to form a liquid wax. Most candles are made in this way. Some companies, however, utilize the unrefined hexane to produce candles made with a more natural fragrance. The process of melting and then pouring the wax is called capping, which is why the cap comes off the candle. After that, it is just a matter of adding the fragrance and coloring.
Candle wax can be bought in bulk, but if you want your candles to have a longer life and to smell better, the best way to do it is to make your own container. There are many different containers you can use to make a candle. You can buy wicks in different sizes so that you can choose between tea light candles, white candles and even mini candles. If you want to make a container that will go from room to room, or that can hold multiple scents, you should buy multi-scent jars.
Since there are a number of different smells available, some candles are simply better than others when they are aromatherapy candles. If you burn a candle that does not have a fragrance, it will not leave a wonderful scent in the air. That’s why it is important to buy one that has a fragrance. You can buy your candle wax in bulk from craft stores, but you may want to consider buying your wax in smaller increments. When you get tired of the fragrance, just add fragrance to your container to keep the container fresh until you want to burn another candle.
Another aspect you will need to think about is how open you want your flame to be. The more you can open the flame, the more likely it is that the candle will burn and give off scent. You will also need to think about how long you plan on burning your candle. If you are only going to let your candle burn for a few seconds or so, it will not take long for your candle to burn, but if you want to burn it for an hour or two, you will need to carefully pour your wax in and make sure it is totally melted before you add your wick.
After you have all of this down, you will be ready to start a candle making. The most difficult part will probably be buying your wax and getting it all melted. However, this can be a very fun hobby. You can even turn your candle making into a business if you make small quantities at a time. Many small home businesses these days make candles as a great way to earn an income, especially if you make your own customized candles.
