How to Make Soy Based Candles Using These Easy Candle Making DIY Tips
So you want to know how to make soy based candles? There are many kits out there for candle making, but I think that creating your own home candle gives you a better chance of creating a candle that has a longer shelf life. A lot of the cheaper kits that you find for candle making contain wax that is not of the highest quality. They will melt and give off a terrible smell after only a few uses. But when it comes to making your own, you control exactly what goes in it. Plus, you can use fragrance in the wax instead of oils.
The first thing you need to do is heat your wax melting pot and add water. Make sure that the pot is well over a boil so that you are not just getting hot wax but melting water as well. Once you have the temperature right, you can pour your wax into the mold. Now you just keep on pouring until all of the melted wax has completely covered your mold. You do want any bubbles in the finished candle to come up through the sides of the mold.
If you are a beginner in candle making DIY, you might want to choose one of these three methods for making your own homemade candles. They are all pretty easy to learn and a lot of fun to do. I would suggest picking one of the three basic types of candles first since all three of them have different textures and effects.
Most people who learn how to make soy based candles start with the double boiler method. This is how you heat up your wax mixture, place the wick in the middle and then keep the lid on it for the amount of time it takes to boil the wick. Once it is done, simply take the wick out of the bottom of the pan and cut it into three strips that are the same size. These strips will go on top of your melted wax foundation and will provide the color for your candle.
The first method on how to make soy based candles starts by using a funnel to pour the melted wax into the center of a cookie sheet. Then you take the cookie sheet and place it in the freezer for about five minutes so that the ice melts and hardens the wick. Once the wick is hardened, simply take it out of the cookie sheet and trim it to the desired height. Make sure you allow at least two inches of wick to stand on top of the foundation so that the finished candle will be sturdy and have a good color.
The second method is a bit of a trick but is very easy to learn. It only takes a few minutes but the result is great when you see it. Instead of pouring your melted wax flakes in the pouring pot, cover them with a piece of foil that has been dipped into the bottom of the pot. Then place the center of the foil inside the pouring pot and allow it to completely melt. Once the foil has melted, you simply tear the paper from one end and place it over the center of your soy candle making mold and press your hands firmly on the sides of the mold so that the foil holds the shape of the mold.
For the last method on how to make soy based candles, you will need a double boiler and a funnel. First, heat up the double boiler to the recommended heat level and add about three-eights ounce of the wax in the middle of the burner. Allow the melt to mix thoroughly. Once this process is complete, add the other half of the ounces of wax and begin stirring. The mixture will boil at this point and you can continue to stir until you notice the color on the stick turning from green to brown.
Once you get the color right, remove the stick from the heat source and allow it to cool for one hour. This will allow the color to gel and harden. Once it is hardened, remove it from the heat source and shake to mix. Once this process is complete, you are now ready to enjoy your amazing and easy candle making!
