## Making Grubby Candles

**Materials:**
– Wax
– Candle Warmer (optional)
– Grubby Candle Making Mold(s)
– Pot / Containers
– Wick
– Wick Setting (Glue Gun or Wick Stickers)
– Scraping/peeling tool
– Coloring Sticks/Wax Pearl, Pigment
### Step 1 – Make the Wax
For homemade grubby candles, the wax is the foundation. The first step is to melt wax chips in a double boiler. With the aid of a thermometer, the wax must be heated to a pouring temperature between 150-170 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s important to adhere to the correct temperature so that the candles don’t crack, dome or not light.
### Step 2 – Pouring The Wax & Adding Wick
Before pouring your wax, it’s important to make sure your mold is prepped and ready. Make sure your wick is firmly mounted in the wax to prevent it from sliding around during pouring. Once you have done that let your creativity flow, you can start customizing the grubby candles and adding desired colors, pigments or dry herbs.
### Step 3 – Cool and Peel
After your molds have cooled, wait at least an hour before attempting to remove your candles from the molds. Gently turn the cast upside down and press the edges of the mold until the grubby candles pop right out. If this doesn’t work, you can use a flattening tool to coax the wax free.
### Step 4 – Final Touches
For extra texture, use your peeling tool to scrape around the ridges of the wax once it has cooled. Make sure you avoid any areas with a wick as it’s flammable. Remember to trim the wick to your desired length. Finally, place your homemade grubby candles in the desired area and enjoy!
