Making Your Own Personalized Candles

Making Your Own Personalised Candles

Are you ready to add a personal touch to your home? Making your own personalized candles is easy and fun. From the look of your candles to their scent and even the type of wax you use, you can customise any aspect you wish – all with the power of DIY. Here’s how to get started:

Gather the Materials

Before you start, you’ll need to gather the necessary supplies. You’ll need a wax melting pot, wax, fragrance, containers or moulds in which to make the candles, wicks, and any additives you’d like to include. Candlewick stickers can be useful, as they will keep the wick securely in place while you pour the wax.

Choose the Right Wax

When it comes to making a custom candle, the wax you use is an important element. There are a number of types of wax that can be used, including:

  • Paraffin Wax: This is the most widely used type of wax for candle making. It’s easy to work with and comes in a variety of colours.
  • Beeswax: This type of wax offers a more natural look, and has a sweet, honey-like scent.
  • Soy Wax: This is the most eco-friendly option, as it is made from vegetable-based ingredients and is renewable. Soy wax also has a lower melting point, so your candles will burn longer.

Add Your Fragrance

Once you’ve chosen the right wax, it’s time to pick a fragrance. Fragrances generally measure in “parts per million” (ppm) – this is the amount of oil that needs to be added to a pound of wax to achieve desired scent strength. A general rule is to mix approximately 1 ounce of fragrance per 1 pound of wax. If you’re making a large batch, you can use a fragrance calculator to determine the correct amount of oil.

Pouring the Wax

Once you’ve calculated the amount of oil needed, it’s time to begin pouring. Start by melting the wax in a wax melter. Keep an eye on the temperature to ensure it does not exceed 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the wax has melted, add the fragrance and stir it in. Then you can pour the wax in to the containers or moulds. Allow the wax to cool for 4-6 hours before adding the wicks. When the wax has completely cooled and hardened, trim the wicks to the appropriate size and light the candles.

Create Unique Design

If you want to add a personalised touch to your candles, try creating a unique design. You can use wax dye to achieve custom colours, as well as glitter, dried herbs, or even dried flower petals. Experiment with different combinations until you find the perfect look for your candles.

Enjoy!

Now that you have your own original creations, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your customised candles. Setting the mood has never been so easy – not to mention affordable!
