Melting Beeswax For Candle Making
Beeswax is a wonderful, natural and versatile material that can be used to make a wide variety of candles. To create these candles, you first need to melt the beeswax, which can be done either with a double boiler system, or with an electric wax melter. Double Boiler System
A double boiler system is a relatively easy and inexpensive way of melting beeswax. All you need is two pots; one larger pot to hold water, and one smaller pot to place the beeswax into. Place the smaller pot into the larger one, and fill the larger pot with water, ensuring that the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the smaller pot.
Once you have done this, put the pots onto the stove and let the water come to a boil. As the water boils, it will create steam, which will in turn heat the beeswax in the smaller pot and melt it. Be sure to check on the water level of the larger pot regularly to make sure it doesn’t dry out.
Electric Wax Melter
Using an electric wax melter is another way to melt beeswax. Electric wax melters are relatively easy to use, and provide a safe, clean and efficient way to melt the wax. The wax is placed into an enclosed area, which is then heated to the desired temperature by a heater built into the melter.
You can choose the exact temperature you need for your wax, and it can also be used to melt different kinds of waxes, such as soy, paraffin and beeswax. This makes it a great option for candle makers who use a variety of waxes in their candles.
Tips For Melting Beeswax
No matter which method you choose to melt your beeswax, there are a few important tips to keep in mind:
- Start slow. Don’t try to melt all the wax at once. Start with a small amount, and add more as needed.
- Be patient. It may take some time for the wax to melt, depending on the temperature of your double boiler or electric wax melter.
- Stir carefully. When stirring the beeswax, use a non-metallic spoon or whisk to avoid any sparks.
- Use caution. Be careful when handling hot beeswax; use heat-resistant gloves and keep the melting beeswax away from anything flammable.
