Wrapping Up The Joys of Sand Candle Making
Sand candle making was a great experience. It took some effort to gather the supplies and build the molds, but after about two hours of work and collaboration, my friends and I had created beautiful sand candles. The process of building the candles was actually kind of like sculpting.
We would use several different types of sand to create an interesting effect, blending light colored sand with dark colored to create interesting streaks that resembled glass blowing. After the candles were finished they looked really unique and beautiful. I was surprised at how intricate and beautiful each one turned out to be.
The actual candle burning process went surprisingly well too. After adding some oil for fuel and lighting them with matchsticks, they lit up quickly. Flame height could be adjusted by repositioning the wick higher or lower in the sand mold, which gave us control over how large or small we wanted our flame to be.
Plus, since the foundation was made from sand it burned slowly so it lasted longer than other types of candlemaking processes. As we watched them burn we joked that maybe one day could even get into this whole “fire art” thing professionally.
Lastly, once our candles had gone out completely, there was still quite a bit of work left to do if we wanted to complete these masterpieces. We needed to carefully remove all traces of wax from around each candle so that they were ready for display as impressive works of art in my house or garden area.
Using warm water and a little elbow grease it only took us about half an hour or so before each sculpture was looking perfect again and ready for its final placement in my living space. All in all sand candle making is definitely something that I would recommend trying as it’s great fun – plus you can enjoy your own creative creations afterwards too.
